The small things I miss about China when I'm not there
I'm back home for a month and here's what I keep thinking about. The convenience:
Wanted delivery food last night. Had to download an app, create an account, verify email, add a card... In China I'd have scanned a QR code and had noodles in 25 minutes.
The prices:
Paid £12 for a mediocre sandwich. That's ¥110. In China that's a full meal at a nice restaurant.
The energy:
Everything here closes at 5 PM. In China, 10 PM is when the night starts.
The weird things I miss:
• Electric scooters whizzing by
• Street BBQ smell at 11 PM
• Metro door "ding" sound
• Being called "lao wai" by grandmas
• Tea served before you even order
What I DON'T miss:
• Pollution. At all.
• Crowds. Personal space is nice.
• Squat toilets. Let's be real.
What do you miss most when you leave China?
