[Kurokun] My Japanese friend cried at Zhangjiajie. Not because of the view.

Hey all, Kurokun here.

My friend Yuki from Osaka visited Zhangjiajie last month. You know, the Avatar mountains.

She sent me photos from the glass bridge. Beautiful shots. Then she called me that night. She was crying.

I thought something terrible happened.

"Kurokun... there were so many people. SO many. I waited three hours in line for the elevator. Three hours. In Japan, if you wait three hours for anything, it's a national emergency."

I tried not to laugh. I really did.

What happened:

Yuki went during Golden Week. She didn't know what Golden Week was. I should have warned her. That's on me.

She described the scene:
• The cable car line wrapped around the mountain twice
• People were eating instant noodles while standing in line
• A guy brought a folding stool. He was the smartest person there.
• Someone's child threw up from altitude + crowd stress
• When she finally got to the viewpoint, she had 30 seconds before the next wave of tourists pushed her forward

The good part:

The next day, she woke up at 5 AM and went back. No crowds. Just mist, mountains, and silence.

She said it was the most beautiful thing she's ever seen.

"But those three hours in line... I will remember them until I die."

Kurokun's advice:

Zhangjiajie is incredible. But do NOT go during Chinese public holidays.

Best times: Late September, mid-November, early March. Avoid Golden Week (Oct 1-7), May Day (May 1-5), and summer holidays (July-August).

Also: bring a folding stool. Yuki bought one after day one and said it changed her life.

Anyone else underestimated Chinese tourist crowds?
