[Kurokun] My French friend's visa photo was rejected because her hair was 'too voluminous'
Hey everyone — Kurokun here.My friend Camille from Lyon applied for a Chinese tourist visa at the Paris embassy. She followed all the rules: white background, neutral expression, no glasses, taken within 6 months.
Rejected.
Reason: "Hair obscures facial contours."
Camille has curly hair. Like, natural French curls. In the photo, her hair touched the sides of her face slightly. Apparently this was unacceptable.
She had to get new photos taken. This time she slicked her hair back with water like she was going to a job interview at a bank in 1987.
Approved.
Other absurd photo rejections I've heard about:
• My Australian friend Jake: rejected because he was "smiling with teeth showing."
• My Korean friend Jin: rejected because his photo was "too high resolution."
• My American friend Dave: rejected because his ears weren't "fully visible" — he has attached earlobes. They are literally as visible as they can be.
What actually works:
Go to a photo studio that does visa photos daily. Tell them "China visa." They will make you look like a passport photo serial killer. No smile. No hair on face. Ears out. Expressionless.
That's what China wants. Give them the serial killer look.
