I spent the night at Beijing Daxing Airport because my connecting flight was 14 hours later. It was surprisingly comfortable.

My friend from Turkey had a 14-hour layover at Beijing Daxing Airport. His connecting flight to Tokyo was the next morning at 6:00 AM.

He considered booking a hotel. Then he discovered Daxing has sleeping pods, showers, and 24-hour restaurants.

He stayed at the airport.

Why Daxing is great for overnight layovers:

1. Sleeping pods
• Located in the international transit area
• ¥150-250 for 4-6 hours
• Reclining chair, blanket, pillow, charging port
• Not a full bed, but comfortable enough

2. Hourly hotels
• Daxing has two in-terminal hotels
• ¥400-600 for a private room (4-6 hour blocks)
• Shower, bed, TV, WiFi
• No need to leave the terminal

3. Free rest areas
• Reclining chairs in quiet zones
• No charge, but no privacy either
• Bring a neck pillow and eye mask

4. 24-hour food
• McDonald's, KFC, and Chinese fast food open all night
• Some restaurants close at midnight, but enough stay open
• Convenience stores (全家, 罗森) are 24/7

5. Showers
• Free shower rooms in some lounges
• Hot water, towels, toiletries
• Usually requires lounge access or a fee (¥50-100)

Other airport options:

Shanghai Pudong:
• Sleeping pods in T1 and T2
• Hourly hotel in T2
• 24-hour convenience stores

Guangzhou Baiyun:
• Sleep boxes in international area
• Free rest zones with reclining chairs

Chengdu Tianfu:
• New airport with excellent transit facilities
• Sleeping pods and 24-hour dining

Tips for overnight layovers:

• Keep your carry-on bag with valuables. Don't leave it unattended.
• Earplugs and eye mask are essential.
• Charge all devices before the restaurants close (some charging stations get crowded).
• If you have lounge access (Priority Pass, credit card), use it. Lounges have showers, food, and quiet areas.
• Set multiple alarms. Airport announcements may not wake you.

My Turkish friend's verdict: "I expected to be miserable. Instead I slept in a pod, took a hot shower, ate McDonald's at 2 AM, and boarded my flight refreshed. Daxing is basically a mall that happens to have planes attached to it."

Anyone else survived an overnight layover in China? Which airport?
