My GPS said I was inside a building. I was on a bridge. Welcome to Chongqing.

My German friend opened Baidu Maps in Chongqing. Blue dot: inside a shopping mall.

She was on a bridge. Above a river. In sunlight.

Chongqing = 8D city:
Built on mountains. Roads stack on top of each other. Same address exists on 3 levels. GPS can't handle it.

Her story:
Maps said "Arrived." She was on a pedestrian bridge. The restaurant was 50m below with no road connecting. Only stairs.

How to navigate:
• Ask locals — GPS is unreliable
• Look for vertical transport: escalators, elevators, stairs, cable cars
• Use landmarks, not addresses
• Allow extra time — 500m can mean 200 stairs

Famous spots:
• Hongya Cave — 11 floors built into cliff, each exits to different street
• Liziba Station — metro passes through residential building

"I spent 30 minutes reaching a restaurant literally below me. Chongqing broke my brain."

Anyone else confused by vertical geography?
