Stay2CN Community Post | Visa Application Guides

Getting my China visa rejected was honestly one of the most frustrating experiences of my travel life. I had flights booked, hotels reserved, and a whole itinerary planned. Then the embassy sent me a one-sentence email: "Application denied."

No explanation. No refund. Just... no.

After reapplying (successfully the second time), I figured out exactly what went wrong. Sharing this so you don't waste time and money like I did.

Mistake #1: My Passport Was Too Close to Expiring
My passport had exactly 5 months and 3 weeks left. The requirement says "6 months minimum." I thought "close enough, they won't check that closely." They absolutely checked. Rejected on the spot. Renew your passport FIRST if it's within 8 months of expiry.

Mistake #2: Inconsistent Dates Across Documents
My flight itinerary said I'd arrive March 15. My hotel booking started March 16. I genuinely just made a typo when booking the hotel. The visa officer noticed the one-day gap and flagged it as suspicious. Every date across every document needs to match perfectly. Triple-check.

Mistake #3: I Submitted the Wrong Photo
I used a photo from 2 years ago where I had longer hair. The officer said it "did not resemble current appearance." Had to get a new photo taken at a studio, delaying everything by a week. Use a photo taken within the last 6 months. And yes, they really do compare.

Mistake #4: No Bank Statement
I didn't include a bank statement because the embassy website listed it as "optional." Turns out "optional" means "you should probably include it unless you have a very strong application." The second time I added 3 months of statements showing a healthy balance. Approved in 4 days.

Mistake #5: Applied Too Late
I submitted my application 10 days before my flight. Processing time is "4–7 working days" but that doesn't include weekends, holidays, or delays. My rejection came back with no time left to reapply before my flight. I had to cancel everything. Apply at least 1 month in advance.

What I Did Differently the Second Time
• Renewed passport first
• Double-checked every date matched across all docs
• Got a fresh photo
• Included bank statements + employment letter
• Applied 5 weeks before travel

Result? Approved in 4 days. Smooth entry. Zero issues.

Bottom line: Chinese visa officers are thorough. They check details you'd never think mattered. Be meticulous. It's worth the extra hour of verification.

Anyone else had a visa rejection? What was the reason? Let's help each other avoid the same mistakes.
