Most people in China are honest. But scams targeting foreigners exist. Know them, avoid them.

1. Black Taxis at Airports
Scam: Unofficial drivers charge 3–5x normal price.
Avoid: Follow official taxi signs, use Didi, take the metro.

2. Tea House / Art Student Scam
Scam: Friendly "art students" invite you to a tea house/cafe, then present a massive bill.
Avoid: Never follow strangers to second locations.

3. Fake Tour Guides at Tourist Sites
Scam: Unauthorized guides at the Great Wall or Forbidden City demanding payment.
Avoid: Only use official guides from the ticket office.

4. Counterfeit Money
Scam: Fake bills given as change at small shops.
Avoid: Check watermark and security strip. Use mobile pay when possible.

5. The "Friendship" Bracelet
Scam: Someone ties a bracelet on your wrist and demands payment.
Avoid: Keep hands in pockets, walk away firmly.

6. Fake Police
Scam: People claiming to be police asking to see your wallet/passport.
Avoid: Real police have badges and uniform. Ask to go to the police station.

7. Overpriced Tea/Souvenirs
Scam: Shops near tourist sites charging 10x normal price.
Avoid: Buy from supermarkets or established stores.

8. Fake Metro Tickets
Scam: Scalpers selling used/expired tickets.
Avoid: Buy only from official machines or use mobile pay.

9. Massage Parlor Rip-offs
Scam: Hidden charges added after the service.
Avoid: Agree on price upfront, choose reputable chains.

10. SIM Card Overcharging
Scam: Airport kiosks selling ¥300 plans you don't need.
Avoid: Know standard prices before buying.

Golden Rule: If it feels wrong, walk away.
